The Color Experiment + Darling Magazine
With Spring around the corner, we’re feeling inspired by COLOR! I’ve teamed up with Darling Magazine to challenge a handful of bloggers, including myself, to incorporate a new color into our wardrobe. Whether it’s a colorful accessory or a vibrant garment, we hope to inspire you to open up your closet to a new color…have fun!Here’s the challenge: What color have you yet to incorporate into your wardrobe?...and why not?Cassie Winslow of Deco Tartelette“My closet has always been filled with blacks, grays, and whites. The occasional pop of color is usually incorporated into my wardrobe by way of accessory…I typically throw on a pair of pink pumps or strap on my lavender shoulder bag to top off my usual head-to-toe black ensemble. Yet lately I have been making a concerted effort to incorporate even more color into my daily attire…a red coat, an orange midi skirt, a velvet burgundy forties dress. Even with my recent branching out, I still found myself sticking with similar palettes (oranges, reds, pinks)…I guess one must start somewhere. Simply shopping with an open mind to a variety of color palettes has opened up a world of possibilities to my stylist’s heart. This beautiful floral coat has a splendid mix of minty greens and aqua blues…when I first came across this beauty, I realized I don’t have one item in my closet with a touch of green. Why not? No reason really…I just haven’t opened my mind to many different colors in general. Tiffany Mitchell of Off Beat + Inspired“Purple and blue are colors I never cared for much, so they never really made an appearance in my wardrobe! I think I was always more drawn to warm hues, but a good friend of mine gifted me this beautiful vintage scarf, and the cool tones really inspired me! I wrapped it as a headscarf and fell in love. Kelly Lee, Editor of Kelly Golightly“While I'm a self-professed color lover and my closet is a sea of pretty pinks, Tiffany blues, and sunshiney yellows, red is something I've almost always steered clear of. Perhaps it's felt a little too sexy, a little too bold, like the grown-up version of myself and less like the gamine I am more comfortable with. Plus, I wasn't sure my ghostly complexion could pull off such a rich hue. But it's a new year, so why not go for the bold? Not only did I attempt the new-to-me color in one piece, I tried it in two: a cherry coat and scarlet heels. Go big or go home! The ladylike silhouette of the coat and sweet bow detail of the heels made it still feel like me (playful), but the bold red hue felt new and like a more sophisticated version of myself. Anne Sage of The City Sage"I've been loving the soft shade of pink that's lately been popping up everywhere from interiors to street style—but I have some seriously traumatic memories of wearing this color in middle school and getting teased by all my grunge-wearing classmates. My sensibility today is best described as minimalist tomboy, so to work this girly hue into my wardrobe without feeling too cutesy I paired it with a few familiar faves.
