Strawberry Picking

Strawberries are my favorite part of summer. Every summer for the past few years, my husband and I head north from Santa Cruz to Swanton Berry Farm (just north of Davenport, California) to pick strawberries. Yes you leave with berry-stained hands but it’s worth it….to add to the day trip, we go to Duarte’s Tavern in Pescadero and have a slice of their famous Olallieberry pie. They have a beautiful vegetable garden near the rear of the restaurant which provides fresh veggies for their menu selections. The drive is gorgeous and I typically end up with enough strawberries to make a batch of strawberry jam, strawberry ice cream, and plenty of strawberries left over to eat by the handful…..did I mention I love strawberries?Photos by N.C Winslow
